What to Do With a Quiet Season
There are seasons when very little seems to be happening.
No new romance. No major career move. No spectacular reinvention. The days look suspiciously similar to one another.
We are encouraged to interpret this as stagnation.
Sometimes it is.
Sometimes it is recovery.
A nervous system becomes less alert. Savings accumulate quietly. A friendship deepens through ordinary Tuesdays. You learn to cook three things well. You sleep. You stop checking someone's page. You begin enjoying your own house again.
Do not underestimate uneventful progress.
Roots are not visible from the sidewalk.
If your life is quiet, ask whether it is empty—or whether, for once, nothing is on fire.
Those are very different conditions.
